The first and most important thing you need to know about PureBasic is that it is a programming language; and more to the point, it is a programming language that is based on established BASIC rules. Moving on, the second thing you need to know about PureBasic is that it’s fast, reliable, beginner-friendly, packed with features that advanced coders will appreciate, and available for multiple platforms. And last but not least, the third thing you need to know about PureBasic is that it isn’t free.

As mentioned above, PureBasic is available for multiple platforms, providing support for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Focusing on Windows alone, I have to point out that PureBasic provides support for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1, and Windows 10. If you want to give PureBasic a try, a 32-bit and a 64-bit demo version is available for Windows.

To get started with PureBasic on a Windows PC, you will have to go through the following steps: download a ZIP archive onto your computer; extract it contents; run the PureBasic executable; follow the instructions presented onscreen by a setup wizard; launch PureBasic once you’re done with the installation process.

These are the main entries from PureBasic’s list of features: programming language based on established BASIC rules; more than 1,400 internal commands; supports all BASIC keywords; full Unicode support; dedicated editor and development environment; powerful integrated debugger and profiles; user friendly UI; and more.

The demo version of PureBasic for Windows comes with several limitations: no Win32 API support, no DLL creation, code size limited to about 800 lines. A prompt will show up every time you launch PureBasic and remind you of these limitations.

Easily create highly customized executables by using PureBasic, a programming language that is based on established BASIC rules.

Pros

PureBasic is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Getting PureBasic up and running on a Windows PC will take little time and effort. The user friendly interface provides easy access to all the features, functions, settings, and tools. PureBasic is based on established BASIC rules.

Cons

Trial limitations: no Win32 API support, no DLL creation, code size limited to about 800 lines.
